Introducing The Neighbourhood Table

Going strong since the summer of 2018, we host a weekly meal with our neighbours in the summer!  These are family-friendly events with children aged 6-12 and their parent(s).   Each event has a food theme where kids prepare and share food along with other learning activities.

In 2020 COVID meant we couldn't welcome our neighbours to our table, so we evolved the program to be @ Home at our neighbours' tables, and delivered a food box, activities for the kids, and cooking lessons on Zoom. We have a chef plan a special recipe each week.  (You can find some below.)  We have now run the program 5 times and expanded to include different neighbours from single parent families to seniors.

In 2022 we went back into the kitchen -- and to the farm!  It was great to be in-person again and meet the kids and their parents, cook, learn, play some games, do some art, and eat together!  We thank our chefs who have shared their passion for food with us!

Neighbourhood Table @ Home, Lent 2021

We got another grant!  We were grateful to be able to take on a bold Lenten discipline:  $40k & 40 days to share fresh food, education and build community with 70 families around a big virtual table.  This time, over 6 weeks, we brought fresh produce to families and seniors.  Each week a food box was delivered and a cooking workshop provided.

Spring 2020:

The plans for Neighbourhood Table had to change in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  From our kitchen to yours... we brought the food to the homes of 65 families.  Each Thursday we delivered food boxes, a loaf of bread, and a food-related activity bag for the children.  Read the Media Release for the additional funding received to extend this program.

The program was a success...we connected with our neighbours.

With the end of summer, the Neighbourhood Table came to an end as well.  For 8 weeks, we joined for community and family-focused food, learning and fun.  Using a different food-related theme each week, we offered a fresh produce market, indoor and outdoor activities, cooking sessions for children and mothers, and a community meal, all on-site at St. Philip’s.
